Azores Airlines announced that direct flights between Porto and the Island of Terceira, in the Azores will be resumed, starting with one weekly flight as of 16th September. This direct route had been trimmed last March due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

In a briefing note, the subsidiary company of the SATA Group explains that the beginning of this route "derives from SATA's gradual flight resumption process".

"The airliner will provide one weekly flight, every Wednesday, between 16th September and 21st October (IATA 2020 summer scheduling season); as of 29th October, the airliner will fly on Thursdays, as well, for the winter IATA scheduling season)", explains Azores Airlines.

With these flight resumptions, the airliner Azores Airlines seeks to "contribute to a gradual stabilising of passenger flows between and the different gateways of the Azorean archipelago and the main national markets".

The return to the direct connection Porto-Terceira will assist the continuing increase in demand for the Airport Francisco Sá Carneiro.

In accordance with data from July, regarding monthly monitoring of air traffic, by the National Agency for Civil Aviation (ANAC), Porto Airport processed a total of 371.094 passengers, a growth of 392, 2% relative to the month of June.
