The Monte Aventino Sports Centre in the city of Porto, inaugurated in 1997, opens a new chapter in its history. Modernised and arranged to new needs, the centre will became a centre of excellence for the practice of tennis, as well as an ideal space to host large events in Racket Sports.

"We want to renovate the tennis court with an acrylic surface, which will be the best in the country in this court surface type and we also intend to host larger competitions at regional, national and at international levels", stated the President of the Portuguese Tennis Federation, Vasco Costa today at a press conference in Porto.

Mayor Rui Moreira, who also attended the press conference, said that the aim is to "turn this into a sports complex with another dimension, of a different nature, practically doubling its potential and compiling a set of specific services, which we, as a Municipality wouldn't be able to meet".

The mayor further added that "these partnership issues are absolutely fundamental in a city which up to this day lacks more sports facilities", and highlighted that the intention was to boost this sports activity (tennis).

"We believe this is a major step forward in the promotion of this sport, but also on the sustainability of the town's education system and the social activities we wish to enhance in the city of Porto", Rui Moreira declared.
