City Hall Clock Tower set to midnight countdown on New Year

Regular service to the City Hall Clock Tower will be carried out tomorrow, December 30, by Marcolino specialist team, to ensure the clock is adjusted for New Year's Eve countdown.

The Clock Tower maintenance work is carried out twice a year, it takes about two hours and it addresses the rusting of metal and repair of the hands, bearings, gears and drive mechanism.

Revellers will watch on as official city countdown to midnight marks the beginning of 2017.

Giant screens will be placed in Avenida dos Aliados for people to count down to midnight as 2016 bids farewell and 2017 begins with poignant commemoration and amazing fireworks.
