Sailor supported by the Municipality wins silver fleet and reaches 24th place in the kitesurf World Cup

Last Saturday, Mafalda Pires de Lima, a Portuguese sailor supported by the Porto City Council, won the silver fleet and finished in 24th place the World Championships in the Olympic kitesurf class, which took place in Hyères, France.

In the Saturday 18th races, the Portuguese sailor – supported by the City Council through the Sponsorship Programme for High-Performance Athletes and Athletes with High Sporting Potential – managed a first place, two seconds and a third, totalling 125 points, leaving her 18 points behind the second in the silver fleet, Polish Magdalena Woyciechowska.

The competition ended on Sunday with the final races for the gold fleet.

Last month, the 26-year-old athlete qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after finishing in seventh place in the women's kitesurfing class during Olympic Week.

In the next edition of the Olympic Games, which will take place from 26 July to 11 August, Mafalda Pires de Lima will be joined by sailors Eduardo Marques, in ILCA 7, and Diogo Costa and Carolina João, in 470 mixed.
