For the first time, Porto is hosting what is known as the 'Davos da Exploração' (Exploration Davos): the Global Exploration Summit (GLEX Summit) will take place between 15 and 19 June, and the participation of the planet's most renowned explorers and scientists has already been confirmed. The official presentation of the event took place in New York and was attended by the Councillor for Tourism and Internationalisation, Catarina Santos Cunha.

This year's GLEX Summit debuts in Porto on 15 June with the GLEX Ignition Session. At Alfândega do Porto and with the support of the Portuguese Space Agency - Portugal Space, the day will be dedicated to the evolution of space exploration (with the Moon in the spotlight) and the recording of an episode of the famous BBC radio programme, The Infinite Monkey Cage, presented by Robin Ince (English comedian, actor and writer), with the participation of the famous physicist, Brian Cox.

The next two days will be spent in Angra do Heroísmo, on the island of Terceira, discussing the power and future of exploration, from the ocean floor to new space missions. Two World Heritage cities, with historical links to exploration, that will attract the attention and curiosity of the participants.

Artemis mission in the spotlight

The latest discoveries and new missions that are revolutionising the future of the planet will be the motto for this year's GLEX Summit. The Artemis mission, which will take a crew of astronauts to the moon for the first time since 1972, is one of the highlights of the summit organised by Expanding World, and curated by The Explorers Club.

Another is the role of space and the oceans in collecting data to investigate and mitigate the effects of climate change. More than two dozen explorers and scientists, many of whom are living legends in their fields, will be travelling to Portugal to talk about these and many other topics related to the exploration of nature and space science.

The GLEX Summit 2024 has the support of the Porto City Council, Angra do Heroísmo Trade Centre and Turismo Porto Norte Portugal.
