The exhibition "I'm your mirror", by the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, opens on 19th February at the Serralves Foundation; however, the gardens and the Museum in Serralves are already extremely busy on account of the giant scale sculptures.

This official exhibit by Joana Vasconcelos happens shortly after the display of the art work by Anish Kapoor.

It's been two weeks that the assembly of some structures started, which bind the organisation to "carry out architecture and civil construction boldness", as explained by the Serralves communication office to JN newspaper.

Joana Vasconcelos uses pre-existing objects or images to recontextualise them into her own creative process, and thus create a borrowed or recycled human-made visual culture. This exhibit displays circa 30 pieces, which have been produced since 1997 and span over two decades of artistic production.

One of such pieces is the iconic "Marilyn" (2009), a pair of fashion high-heeled sandals, made of pans and lids.

Also, there is "Miss Jasmine", an artwork of 2010, a huge forged iron teapot, or a more recent piece, from 2018, the "Solitário", a solitaire ring made of golden tyre rims of luxury cars, and an inverted pyramid made of whiskey crystal glasses to represent a diamond.

Inside the museum, it is possible to see the "I'll be your mirror" piece, a Venetian mask made of hundreds of golden framed mirrors.

Joana Vasconcelos has exhibited regularly since the mid-1990s. Her work became known internationally after her participation in the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005, with the work "A Noiva" [The Bride] (2001-05) and the fact that she was the first woman and the youngest artist to exhibit at the Palace of Versailles, in 2012.

The exhibition will be on show at the Serralves Foundation from 19 February to 24 June 2019.
