"Voice for the Ocean Tour" is heading to Porto on 9 and 10 November, came rain or shine, at the Forte de São João Baptista, in Foz, organised by the Surfrider Foundation, the international non-profit organisation established in 1990 by a group of surfers, which is evermore engaged in raising global awareness on the issue of climate change and polluted oceans worldwide, and this time on the Portuguese coast.

This Tour will gather political decision makers and stakeholders such as Ricardo Serrão Santos, MEP, Loreley Picourt, of Ocean & Climate Platform, and Tiago Pires "Saca", as speaker at the "Surf and sustainable Tourism" panel.

Following Burgas, in Bulgaria, Paris, Brussels and Malaga, Porto is the last stop of the "Voice for the Ocean Tour", whose main goal is to engage citizens to take action in the plight for a better planet and the protection and enhancement of lakes, rivers, oceans, waves and the coastline.

Good news lay ahead as governments are starting to put forward a set of measures to educate citizens and protect the oceans. What might seem as drops in the ocean like resetting one's habits, banning plastic bags, recycling litter are in fact what the world needs right now. Citizens can take action, they can become volunteers and report pollution, sign petitions and help carry out Surfrider's mission.

As any non-profit organisation, Surfrider Foundation relies on the global effort of volunteers all over the globe to set things going. Currently, the Foundation gathers over 12 000 members in Europe and is represented in 9 countries.

"Our responsibility is stronger today, our vigilance must be ongoing as both our members' and supporters' expectations are valuable and worthy of the stakes we are facing today as a society", Surfrider's Chairman Gilles Asenjo states.

Also, the "Voice for the Ocean" public survey was launched to collect data on key issues regarding the definition of MEP political agenda for 2019.

This public consultation is open till 14 December, after which concrete proposals will be presented on this topic in order to be accommodated to future political programmes.
