The quality of the architecture that is developed in the city of Porto is recognised, once more: an office of young architects from Porto has won the international tender "Aviapolis Urban Blocks", organised by the city of Vantaa, near Helsinki.

The bid to create a new urban area was developed jointly with a Swedish office.

Headquartered at Avenida da Boavista and also with a studio in Copenhagen, Denmark, the MASS Lab and the Mandaworks Office from Stockholm, have won with the "Where the World Meets Finland" Project, regarding the first phase to develop a quater, a vibrant and resilient neighbourhood that will enable to transform Aviapolis, where the country's biggest international airport is located, in a cultural and diverse sustainable environment.

According to the architects from Porto, this project "enhances the local and regional potential to generate cultural exchanges and new ways of living. Concurrently, it fosters environmental challenges through innovative communal and circular systems".

This project is based on resource efficiency, active involvement with the world and local residents by means of "developing circular economies and shared systems" with the construction area of 240,000 square meters.

The Mass Lab, founded in 2014, has won its place among the new generation of Portuguese architects, who are "reinvigorating Porto Tradition", towards the path of internationalization of architecture from Porto.

The team includes 17 creatives and the office was founded by former students from Faculty of Architecture, University of Porto.
