If it is true that "one swallow does not make a summer", a camellia exhibition sure sounds like spring.

The iconic "Camellias in Porto" exhibition will be back in town on 2 and 3 March. The novelty this year is the venue, as the landmark building of São Bento Station will host the first showcase of the "Japan Rose", as it was called by German botanist Engelbert Kaempfer.

"A Camélia na Cidade" [Camellia in the city] is the theme of the XXIV Exhibition of Camellias in Porto, one of the most cherished initiatives not only by the people in town but also by visitors to Porto.

Long before camellias were even spotted in Europe, this flower of circa 900 names in Japanese was cultivated in the gardens of China and Japan for centuries. So, take the time to visit the camellia display at São Bento Station, while gazing at the marvellous tiles inside the station main hall during the first weekend of March.

The two-day show is open to the public between 2.30 pm and 7 pm, on Saturday and between 10 am and 7 pm, on Sunday.
