A community garden was born, designed in open sky by the Associação de Educação e Desenvolvimento Social (AEDS), in Campanhã. Throughout the last weeks, artist Heitor Corrêa (with the help of artists Marcelo Clapp and Pedro Dalai) steered the making of a new mural, which is now part of the Urban Art Programme, implemented by the Porto City Hall and developed by Ágora.

From dreams or memories of a more active subconscious, members of the association were called to write down in a paper what “working in the garden” reminded them of.

After several workshops that happened over the last few weeks with AEDS members, most of them young adults who suffer from mental disorders and pathologies, the artists came up with a big drawing which alluded to the garden in a direct reference to the plantation and gardening workshop developed the weeks before.

The process, named “Vamos às Couves?”, is a space which gives full autonomy and freedom of expression to these 10 young adults, helping break stereotypes about mental pathologies.

Heitor Corrêa is a visual artist, illustrator and educator from Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. He moved to Portugal in 2016 to continue his studies in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, where he currently lives.
