City Hall building lit up in the colours of Ukraine

Early in the evening, the City Hall building was lit in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, celebrating the country's independence day on 24 August and in response to a request from the Ukrainian Consulate in Porto.

The initiative brought together several people in Praça do General Humberto Delgado and marked the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine's declaration of independence, on 24 August 1991.

This is another demonstration of Porto's solidarity with Ukraine, which Russia has invaded since 24 February 2022. In the words of that Consulate, the initiative intends to mark 'the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people against the Russian military invasion', and to recall the importance of 'international support' in protecting their sovereignty and independence.
