Culture or the starting point of Porto by Rui Moreira at the Moscow Urban Forum

Moscow is the global capital to debate the cities of the future. The MUF 2018 - Moscow Urban Forum runs from 17 to 22 July, under the topic "Megacity of the Future: New Space for Living".

The MUF is held annually since 2011 and it is a project of the Moscow City Government, allowing for leading urbanists, economists, architects, entrepreneurs, public officials, and also city activists from Russia and around the globe to share best practices regarding the management of the cities of the future. This event was also attended by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.

This event gathers renowned speakers worldwide, and Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto was one of the guest speakers who shared the city's starting point regarding sustainability and social cohesion: culture.

Rui Moreira was a guest speaker on the panel devoted to debating the topic "Capital of Impressions. Events as a Driver of Urban Economy", and presented Porto's experience concerning creative industries and investments. The Mayor highlighted the importance of the city's rebranding and the need to rethink the tourism sector.

In this regard, the Mayor highlighted the importance of events of different sorts, namely sports, entertainment, and cultural events as key to boosting new businesses and creating positive experiences for local citizens and visitors, in an urban atmosphere that is "really comfortable and interesting".

Rui Moreira also enhanced Culture as "a main tool" in the context of sustainable cities, and further added that it is part of the "perfect triangle" of intervention in the city of Porto, alongside the economic and social cohesion pillars.
