Beginning December 17, the Casa do Infante will be hosting a trip into the history of theatre with the exhibition "The Stage and The City, Theatre in Porto 1850-1950", celebrating 10 decades of theatrical history in the city of Porto.

If you are a theatre fan, chances are you are already familiar with some of the genres displayed. If you want to be surrounded by history, don't miss this opportunity to revisit lyrical theatre, vaudevilles, magical reels and zarzuelas.

This show is a display of the historical background of Porto's theatrical activity from 1850 to 1950 in an essentially diachronic perspective, featuring the incorporation of various art forms, such as architecture, music, dance, fashion and many more, into theatre practice.

Presented here is a major, though not comprehensive, collection of essays and documents, which assess intermediality in theatre and performance.

This exhibition draws on the history of international literary trends such as Gioacchino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, Georges Bizet and takes a look at the main portuguese writers over the last 10 decades, referencing examples such as Francisco de Sá Noronha, Ciríaco Cardoso and Alfredo Keil.

Theater has always been, far back as ancient Greece, the privileged stage for sociocriticism, and it still is the perfect place for the exploration of the social dynamics we all live in.

If you are a fan, be sure to visit this exhibition.

The exhibition is on display at CASA DE INFANTE | 09: 30h-17: 00h, Monday to Friday | 09:30 a.m.-12:30 a.m. / 14:00 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
