The old Foz do Douro market completed 75 years last year. It is run by the Union of Parishes of Aldoar, Foz do Douro and Nevogilde, and it reopened doors complying with all preventive measures under the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The market, which underwent renovation works recently, offers local and fresh products. Besides the restaurant spaces and the small businesses linked to traditional trade.

Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto visited the market last Friday, 12th June, upon invitation by the chairman of the Union of Parishes, Nuno Ortigão.

The Mercado da Foz, aka Mercado da Foz do Douro, is the most iconic old market in the western part of Porto and it runs daily, from Monday to Saturday, providing not only the entire local community but also the people who visits the market to buy fresh local sea and land products from the neighbouring municipalities.

The market is located in Rua de Diu, nearby the sea. It merges tradition and innovation, within its butcher shops, seafood shops, fresh vegetables, and florists, just to name a few.

The market was revitalized with the inclusion of small traditional businesses as shoe repair shops, arts and crafts or even haberdashery shops, as well as dining areas to serve the market's local fresh products.

Currently, all 23 spaces are operating and have restarted running last 1st June, in line with the Mayor's Order, which authorises the reopening of food markets.

The operating timetable has been readjusted; it runs from Monday to Thursday, between 7am and 6pm, and from Friday to Saturday, between 7am and 11pm.
