The ColRobot combines cutting edge technology developed in Europe with aggregated user requirements to apply to assembly procedures and to establish an integrated collaborative robotic system, in the shape of a handle that assists the operator when performing tasks.

Such a robot was developed by INESC TEC and it was presented and tested on 22 January, in Porto. This is the latest result of a European project, with a budget of 4.3 million euros to support robotic solutions that can be deployed to the automobile and aerospace industries.

"ColRobot will have a significant impact on these industries due to the innovative technologies it uses and which have been developed with a global focus on the operational environment in the main European industries. It is a collaborative and safe robotic system as it helps improve European production competitiveness and allows a flexible production", explained Germano Veiga, researcher at INESC TEC.

The presentation and testing of the robot were attended by several institutions that have also participated in the project, namely ENSAM École Nacionale Superieure d'Arts et Metiers, Centre d'Innovation des Technologies sans Contact EuraRFID, AKEO PLUS, RENAULT SAS and Thales Alenia Space from France, Universidade de Coimbra, from Portugal, Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, from Italy, Fraunhofer-IFF from Germany, AIMEN - Asociación De Investigación Metalúrgica Del Noroeste and Technaid SL, from Spain.

This project was financed under the Programme for Research and Development of European Union, Horizonte 2020.
