Porto Historic Centre was acknowledged World Heritage Site by UNESCO 20 years ago. The date is celebrated with a TV Special Broadcasting from the city of Porto in the Porto Innovation Hub facilities, the new innovation space that will be opened Tuesday, December 6 by Porto City Hall.

The viewing figures of yesterday's special television broadcast were higher than those of cable news channels. From an abandoned and grey inner city to modern era full of incredible urban growth spurts, the city of Porto might take you by surprise (I said might!), hadn't the city of Porto always been a historically creative and reactive city.

The main focus of the TV special was to demonstrate the now and then of the city, how Porto looked like 20 years ago. Thriving on tourism growth, investment attraction and asserting itself increasingly as a major technology hub and ideal venue for many companies (see news on Leica store, Hard Rock café, Fashion Clinic Store, Rimowa Store) and startups.

This urban planning and these development policies have to be thoroughly and repeatedly thought through alonside urban interactions vitality, as mayor Rui Moreira said "the tourists have to love the city but the population has to love the tourists as well. And that is something that is done daily".

Urban scaling and planning is better served by attending to the specifics of culture, history and civic identity.

Mayor Rui Moreira, special guest to this TV broadcasting, spoke of the various ongoing projects in the city, including the rehabilitation of the Bolhão Market, reiterating that it does not depend on Community funds, relying entirely on municipal management.

"Bolhão is alive and kicking", the mayor declared, and this years's Xmas season  was prepared tending to Bolhão sellers like never before (see news on Bolhão market).

"A cosmopolitan city embracing the future" and "working side by side with Universities, foreign and domestic investors and minding culture" that is how Rui Moreira, mayor of Porto, defines the city.
