Luca Guadagnino speaks at the Forum of the Future in Porto this November

Luca Guadagnino will be in the city of Porto, Portugal, for the Forum of The Future, which runs from 4 to 10 November. The filmmaker will be in Porto on the first day of the event to talk about the role of desire in his work, at the Grande Auditorium of Rivoli Theatre. Entrance free.

This important event in Porto first started in 2014, and its main goal is to put forward a platform to debate key issues in society at large. This year's edition will debate how Antiquity can have an impact on contemporary culture. Thus, the Forum of The Future 2018 is themed "Ágora Club".

Guadagnino has received unanimous critical acclaim for directing and producing "Call Me by Your Name" (2017). This film has awarded the Italian filmmaker nominations for an Academy Award for Best Picture, Nastro d'Argento for Best Director, and BAFTA Award for Best Direction.

Nico Marzano, cinema curator of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London will lead the debate session "The Aesthetics of Desire" and will talk with the Italian director on the importance of desire in his work, as well as the Greco-Roman inspirations in his films, including the film "Call Me by Your Name" (2017).

The Forum will be held in several places across town, namely Fundação de Serralves, Casa da Música, Mala Voadora, Rivoli Theatre and Nacional Theatre of São João.

Luca Guadagnino, the Sicilian film director, producer, and screenwriter has often worked with actress Tilda Swinton, including on the films The Protagonists (1999), I Am Love (2010), A Bigger Splash (2015) and Suspiria (2018).

Other renowned guest speakers of the Forum of the Future 2018 are the Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, Japanese architect Toyo Ito, and the feminist activist Nadya Tolokonnikova, from the Russian Band Pussy Riot.

All sessions of the Forum of the Future are entrance free, but previous ticket collection is mandatory before each session.
