Porto is part of the 10th June Portugal and Communities Day celebrations, in Beijing, China. The Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira travelled to that country, where he will deliver a speech at this event promoted by the Portuguese Embassy to China.

The Casa da Música Baroque Orchestra will be performing at the National Conservatory of Music in China, both on 13th and 14th June.

According to the Portuguese Ambassador to China, José Augusto Duarte stated that "celebrating the Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities is always an excellent opportunity to make known the best of our culture throughout the entire world, also our artistic developers, our national identity, and what makes us unique. In this context, I choose to dedicate this year's celebrations in the Chinese Capital to the theme Kangxi, Porto and the Baroque".

Kangxi, one of the most known emperors of the Qing Dynasty, ruled China between 1662 and 1722, and one of his most prominent advisor was Tomás Pereira, a Jesuit from Porto, who played a vital role in the treaties negotiations regarding China and Russia border demarcation. The Jesuit also shared with the emperor his taste for baroque music.

"Celebrating Portugal Day is to recall the best of our people in former times and be inspired by their deeds and also to value those who are the best at present time in the fields of Culture and Economy", the diplomat enthuses.

Rui Moreira and his team have been liaising with several Chinese cities to promote bilateral contacts and activities. Most recently, both a Chinese delegation from Shanghai and a delegation from Shenzhen economic power visited Porto.

Super Bock is the official sponsor of the concerts that will gather around two thousand people. Furthermore, at the event, there will be actions devoted to importers, retailers and Chinese media who are curious about the city of Porto.
