The MMIPO - Museum and Church of the Misericórdia of Porto is the only Portuguese museum to take part in the competition for the European Museum of the Year Award.

MMIPO, located at Rua das Flores, is celebrating its third anniversary and enters this restricted competition for the most prestigious European award in the museological domain.

The European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA), founded in 1977 by journalist Kenneth Hudson, is held each year and awards museums that are newly opened or have undergone modernization or expansion in the past two years.

This prize is presented each year by the European Museum Forum (EMF) under the auspices of the Council of Europe.

The selection criteria includes the most engaging and attractive museums, satisfaction levels, innovative and creative display and social responsibility.

The Design Museum of London was the latest winner of the EMYA awards.
