HHY & The Macumbas are headed to Nyege Nyege, East Africa's new wave and largest Electronic Music Festival, on the banks of the river Nile, near Lake Victoria spring, Uganda, from 6 to 9 September.

For four days, a new generation of artists embraces technologies (smartphones, internet, laptops) now within reach, even though internet coverage is still costly and slow.

Nyege Nyege, which means "the feeling of a sudden uncontrollable urge to move, shake or dance" is winning fans outside East Africa and offering a glimpse into what's happening in East Africa at present.

Self-sufficiency is key, as Dilsizian, from the organisation states, "we constantly remind ourselves that, in some respects, things are not so different here to other parts of the world when it comes to underground music. Young people are inventing and reinventing new sounds in conversation with each other. But the touring opportunities for underground artists, especially in Europe, and the constant exposure to new music - these things are lacking in Africa for many different reasons, and artists here are yearning for more. Some of it they are fixing themselves, but it has limits. It's about finding a balance. And it's coming. We're on the cusp."

Porto collective HHY & The Macumbas, lead by Jonathan Uliel Saldanha, participates in the Nyege Nyege Festival, featuring a "very special performance by extraordinary musicians from Kampala, an ensemble developed during a residency", as quoted by Lusa.

Regarded as "one of the best festivals of the 21st Century", the Nyege Nyege also includes the participation of graphic designer of Congolese and Swiss origin, Soraya Lutangu, artistically known as Bonaventure and presently residing in Lisbon, the North Americans Jlin and Juliana Huxtable, German artist Errorsmith and the British Giant Swan, as many other, specially artists from Kenya, Zambia, Nigeria and Tanzania.

HHY & The Macumbas new album is themed "Beheaded Totem", and it will be released in 28th September by House of Mythology.
