Network of municipal sports facilities includes University School of Sport soccer field

As of January 2017 and for the next ten years, Porto municipal infrastructure will add another football eleven soccer field to its network of municipal sports equipment, following a protocol established between the municipality and the University of Porto.

Under this agreement, synthetic grass soccer field for football eleven of the Faculty of Sport (FADEUP), located in Polo II of the University of Porto, in Asprela, will be under the management of the PortoLazer municipal company, in the after-school period, thus allowing sports agents of the city to use the facility during the weekend and from Monday to Friday after 7:30 pm.

"We are aware of the deficit that Porto still has with regards to the provision of sports equipment, so this is another important step we are taking to ensure maximum profitability of the resources that already exist in the city" said Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, during his visit to the Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto, recently considered the 23rd best sports school in the world and tenth of Europe.

Streamlining this equipment outside the school hours will allow its use by more than 300 young people of the city.

It took only two years for Porto City hall to double its municipal infrastructure in terms of soccer fields' availability for after school use in the city.

The municipality of Porto and FADEUP are working together in order to building strong relationships with the communities that surround its campuses. At a time when it is difficult to establish new projects, such measures play an important role in enhancing existing community-based projects.
