Orquestra XXI was created five years ago and marks this occasion with a concert tour that begins on 6th September, at Casa da Música, at 9 pm at Sala Suggia.

The thriving music scene of the city of Porto brings classical music to old and new fans, featuring a rich repertoire, with compositions of Mozart, Ligeti and Beethoven.

The orchestra will deliver top-notch performances, with four great soloists. Flutist Adriana Ferreira, oboíst Samuel Bastos, horn player Ricardo Silva and bassoonist Virgílio Oliveira gather to play Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds, conducted by Dinis Sousa.

The Sinfonia Concertante is subject to considerable debate regarding its authenticity, and some scholars claim the composition is currently in a corrupt form.

Robert Levin, who wrote an entire book about the piece, has made a reconstruction of the original piece based on his research.

Today, the Sinfonia Concertante is very popular and regularly performed. A typical performance lasts about 28 minutes.

The concert to mark the Orchestra XXI 5th anniversary begins with "Ramifications", by György Ligeti, and closes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 7.

Orquestra XXI was established in 2013, gathering nearly one hundred Portuguese musicians residing abroad, namely in London, Paris, Berlin, Zurich, Perm, Madrid and Amsterdam.

The main goal of the Orchestra is to get these musicians to establish, maintain and develop strong ties to their country, whilst sharing music moments of excellence with all types of audiences.

Most of these musicians work in institutions as the London Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of France and the Zurich Opera or study at reputed schools such as Hoschule für Musik Hanns Eisler or the Royal Academy of Music.
