The excitement of international tennis returns to the Monte Aventino Sports Complex from this Monday until August 4, highlighted for the second year by the ATP Challenger 125.

In 2024, sports once again become a hallmark of Porto's summer, and not just on the sand. The synthetic courts of the Monte Aventino Sports Complex are once again hosting the Porto Open, a series of tennis competitions included in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) calendar.

Named Eupago Porto Open this year, the 26th edition kicks off this Monday until July 21 with the ITF W75 women's format. The following day, the men's tennis players take part in the ITF Men's M25 event, running until July 28. Finally, from July 29 to August 4, the most anticipated of the three tournaments, the ATP Challenger 125, will take place, with prize money totalling around €150,000 (the other two tournaments will award €60,000 and €25,000 respectively to the top players).

The closing competition, which made its debut in the city last summer, is part of the Challenger Tour, an annual series of 180 professional competitions that allow men's tennis players to earn points to try to enter the main circuit of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

Divided into five categories, with 125 being the highest, it's a launch pad for the elite division and usually features a mix of experienced players who are going through bad times with up-and-coming players. Tennis stars such as Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Carlos Alcaraz have passed through this stage.

Activities for the youngest

Alongside the Eupago Porto Open, the organisation will offer a free entertainment area (various activities) during the weeks of competition for the younger ones, especially those in sports holiday groups.

The space will be open from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. However, the timetable can be adjusted. Children will have access to recreational games and inflatables, the opportunity to try out tennis with the support of monitors, tour the facilities, and watch games and training sessions of professional players.
