The Mayors of Bordeaux and Porto, former Prime Minister Alain Juppé and Rui Moreira, inaugurated the exhibition "Douro: L'Air de la terre au bord des eaux", in the port city of Bordeaux, a famed wine-growing region, on the Garonne River in southwestern France, on 4 October.

This event was held in the framework of both La Cité du Vin programme and the celebration of 40 years of twinning between Porto and Bordeaux. The occasion was promoted by the Fondation pour la Culture et les Civilisations du Vin, which annually grants a wine region the opportunity to present its culture and heritage.

This year, the city of Porto and the Douro Region are invited to showcase their vineyards and landscape.

At the opening ceremony, the French Mayor, Alain Juppé, highlighted that the Porto - Bordeaux twinning is a success case as it promotes trade and tourism, fostering understanding and friendship between different cultures.

Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, in turn, enhanced how similar both cities are regarding their dimension and the economic growth, pinpointing the rehabilitation programme EuroAtlantique, ongoing in the French city and the investment programme in Campanhã, the eastern part of Porto.

"Douro: L'Air de la terre au bord des eaux" ("Douro: an alchemy between air, land and river"), is organised by Porto City Hall and by the Fondation pour la Culture et les Civilisations du Vin and it will be on show till 6th January 2019 at the Cité du Vin, Bordeaux.
