At national level, Portuguese athletes Rui Pedro Silva, José Moreira and Hélder Santos, from Sporting, and Daniel Pinheiro, from Águas de Alvelos, will try to counteract the Kenyan hegemony.

For the first time in this event, "The Positive Egoism Movement will provide people with special needs the opportunity to enter the race", as stated by race director Jorge Teixeira to Lusa.

A team from the IAAF (International Athletics Federation) will be present at the event to assess the allocation of the Bronze Label to Porto Half marathon. If so, this race can be included in the International Association of Athletics Federations official calendar in 2019, as one of the best half marathons in the world.
