The exhibit "UNESCO Green Citizens: Pioneiros da Mudança" [UNESCO Green Citizens: Pioneers of Change", free translation] premieres for the first time in Portugal on 25th September, at the Biodiversity Gallery, located at the Casa Andresen in the Botanical Garden in Porto. The show will run till 6th January 2019 and entrance is free.

To encourage enthusiasm and insights learning by example and towards sustainability is the main goal of the UNESCO Green Citizens programme. For that reason, besides this international exhibit, UNESCO delivers an online platform so that people can share best practices and meaningful experiences, geared by their participation in this type of projects.

This is a multimedia travelling exhibition, which is the result of a partnership between UNESCO, the Sipa Press Agency and Klorane Botanical Foundation.

The exhibit gathers 25 people, who take part in educational programmes all over the globe, with the fundamental goal of passing on expertise that might help answer the planet's current needs in a sustainable manner, without compromising the future of our planet. These are the green citizens, aka pioneers of change.

"To educate for the sustainable development means to promote a sustainable use of resources, which will narrow climate change, reduce the risk of natural disasters, enhance cultural diversity, gender equality and health systems, lessen poverty situations, increase biodiversity and strengthen peace", as stated by UNESCO.

Japan, Senegal, Vanuatu, India, Brazil, Morocco, USA, Egypt, Nicaragua, France and Portugal are the countries represented in this exhibition.

The display comprises 45 photographs, five videos of international projects and three videos of a Portuguese Project, namely "O lobo e o Homem: proteger, valorizar e sensibilizar" [The Wolf and the Man: protect, value and sensitise", free translation], by João Pedro Marnoto.

This particular project aimed at reversing the value associated with the wolf and its territory, has supported animal breeders who have suffered from wolf attacks and has ensured the preservation of this species, already an endangered species.

The exhibition opens on 25th September 2018 and runs till 6th January 2019, in Porto.

This is a free admission event.
