According to EY (formerly Ernst & Young), Porto is the Portuguese city with the highest number in investment projects and employment creation. Information and communication technologies and tourism are considered the driving sectors of the country's development.

Although Lisbon is seen as the most attractive region in the country, Porto proved to be the destination with increased new investment projects and job creation.

EY states that Portugal was able to attract the highest investment value of Foreign Direct Investment of the past twenty years, in its Attractiveness Survey 2017, released 23 May.

Overall, in accordance with the review, Portugal attracted the record number of 59 investment projects in 2016.

The two major investors in Portugal were Germany and Spain in 2016, with 14 and 10 investment projects respectively, while France was the leading investor regarding job creation, with 900 job placements and eight new projects to invest in Portugal.

The USA and Japan are also represented as FDI investment sources in Portugal in 2016, which illustrates the country's great geographical scope and logistical potential for development.

The EY Attractiveness Survey is a study supported by EY, at the European level to assess in particular the interest shown by investors by destination countries.
