Porto leads as best practice in Heritage preservation

The international project lead by Porto, AtlaS-WH, was selected by the European Union as a landmark reference regarding Heritage and Patrimony preservation and protection.

This selection is available online, in an e-book presented in Brussels. The "AtlaS-WH - Património no Espaço Atlântico: Sustentabilidade dos Sítios Urbanos Património Mundial" is part of a partnership between five cities listed as World Heritage: Porto Historic Centre, Bridge Luiz I and Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar; Ciudad Histórica de Santiago de Compostela; Bordeaux, Le Port de la Lune; Centro Storico di Firenze; The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh. 

This partnership, led by Porto, deals with the common challenges facing historic sites, such as world heritage sites identity protection and the upgrading of historic sites, in order to boost cultural and economic growth Heritage, as well as creating Management and Sustainability plans for each site.

Also, the INTERACT programme, which supports INTERREG by fostering cooperation among European Union countries, has developed and eBook titled "Connecting Cultures, Connected Citizens". The main goal of such a publication is to collect the best practices by identifying inspirational projects in the context of cultural heritage, such as AtlaS-WH, in the framework of the Year of European Cultural Heritage celebration in 2018.

"Connecting Cultures, Connected Citizens" was publicly announced during the European Week of Regions and Cities, which was held in Brussels this week.
