Porto Municipal Gallery will inaugurate the exhibition "Eyes wide open! 100 years of Leica photography" tomorrow, which will run until February 5, 2017. The exhibition is organized by the Porto City Hall and curated by Hans-Michael Koetzle.

The exhibition's theme is the theory and practice of photography: from technological and aesthetic evolution to ethical and deontological concerns.

The exposition focuses on Leica's history and image legacy that span the twentieth century to present time. Divided into fourteen nuclei, the exhibition focuses on how the 35mm format transformed the photographic eye in the context of the history of Western art and culture, the effects of the miniaturization of photography in the creative work of amateurs, artists and photojournalists and, above all, how The visual language has changed over the decades and, with it, our perception of the world.

Some of the work of the world's iconic photographers are included in the exhibition, namely Nobuyoshi Araki, Julia Baier, Oskar Barnack, René Burri, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Gérard Castello-Lopes, François Fontaine, Bruce Gilden, Eva Kemlein, Saul Leiter, Susan Meiselas , Paulo Nozolino, Victor Palla, Alexander Rodtschenko or Christer Strömholm, among others.
