The Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2019 ceremony was held in Adelaide, South Australia. Once again, innovation and excellence were celebrated in wine tourism in the regions of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.

Porto played host to this event in 2016, as a Great Wine Capitals Global Network member, an organisation that aggregates 10 cities and the corresponding wine-growing areas, considered the best in the world, namely Adelaide (South Australia), Bilbao (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Lausanne (Switzerland), Mainz (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), S. Francisco (USA), Valparaiso (Chile), Verona (Italy) and Porto (representing the Portuguese Wines from the Douro, Porto and Vinhos Verdes in this network).

"Old world, New world, Our world", as Lieke van der Hulst, WCA Wine Media Cadet in 2018 enthuses. Van der Hulst is also "an avid wine enthusiast, science lover, and communicator", who completely surrendered to the charm of the city of Porto, as stated in the Wine Communicators of Australia blog. Hulst shares that Ricardo Valente, Councillor for Economy, Tourism and Trade at Porto City Hall "enthusiastically explained why people should visit Porto", on the occasion of the Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2019, which was held in Adelaide.

As such, Porto is not only the place where "you get the local wine", renowned worldwide, but also the "generous hospitality, the beautiful old town centre interwoven with modern architecture and the amazing food".

And if Hulst's "little piece of heaven has a lot to offer", Porto is not found wanting. WCA Wine Media Cadet, Lieke van der Hulst enthuses that "Porto is working on their version of a landmark devoted to wine from across the globe. In 2020 Porto's answer to the Bordeaux wine museum should be ready", adding that this is an excellent reason "to plan another trip to the old world and visit both world of wine experiences".
