"Never has the choice of the winning city been so unanimous among travellers from all over the world" it is the entry statement on the European Best Destinations Official Website, regarding the winner announcement.

Porto won the prestigious title of Best European Destination, for the third time. The voting was resoundingly in favour of the city of Porto, with three times more votes than the Croatian city of Zadar, winner for 2016.

The city competed with 19 other great cities like Paris, Athens, Rome, Madrid or Vienna, and after a three weeks' period of online voting, Porto was announced the winner for next best destination in Europe.

We are trying not to play favourites, but Porto is the best for a number of reasons. Just to name a few, The Ribeira - the riverside by river Douro, the Port Wine cellars, São Bento Train Station, its gastronomy.

Also its World Heritage Historic City Centre. Porto is an ancient city, almost 900 years old and it has many aging buildings, but the city is undergoing great restoration works and many historic buildings have been brought to life as business centres, cinemas, health centres.

And the key word here is accessibility. In recent times, new routes have been introduced by several airline companies, such as Air France, Aer Lingus, Ryan Air, Turkish Airlines and Eurowings, bringing the world closer to Porto.

Porto is appealing in more ways than one and the "Cidade Invicta" (unvanquished city) awaits you. Visit Porto!
