What if you could sleep with bats? You have the opportunity to do so in July, August and in October in Porto. There will be five sessions, and the first is schedule to start at 8.30 pm, on 20th July, guided by Luzia Sousa from the Rectory of Porto University, at the Environmental Education Centre (CEA) of the Rural Settlement of the City Park.

This is an excellent opportunity to dispel myths about this nocturnal flying mammals and get to know a bit of their living habits. Bats are the only mammals capable of flying like birds.

There are 27 bat species in Portugal, all insectivorous, and eight of those are endangered species.

Bats usually communicate with each other through high frequency chirps, screeches, and songs, which they use to hunt.

"Nights with Bats" features three sessions in August; the first on 11th, around 8.30 pm at the CEA of Parque da Pasteleira; the second is scheduled for 24th August at 8 pm at Quinta do Covelo; and the third on 31st August at 7.30 pm at the CEA of Palácio de Cristal.

The last and farewell session of "Nights with Bats" 2018 will be on 12th October, around 6.30 pm, at the CEA of Quinta do Covelo.

All sessions are participation free, but subject to availability. Registration is required till 4 pm on the day of the session via dm.gestaoambiental@cm-porto.pt
