TAP covers direct flights between Porto and New York six days a week at a time when other airliners bet on air connections to and from Porto Airport. This is extraordinary news for Porto and could only be accomplished due to the acknowledgment that Porto is a city for the future.

TAP, the Portuguese Flagship Airliner offers direct flights to New York as low as 213 euros per journey. The so far only direct connection between Porto and mainland USA, with scheduled air service Porto-New York that is provided twice a week, will increase the departures to 6 per week - except for Tuesdays.

This is a relevant upgrade not only for the destination but also for its economic competitiveness as well.

The direct route will operate from Newark Liberty International Airport, in New Jersey and, according to TAP in a statement, "passengers will be flown in the Airbus A321 LR, one of the most modern aircrafts in the world".

The growth of scheduled air traffic between Porto and the United States follows the latest announcement of more air links to other destinations, and TAP having resumed air links to Brussels, Lyon and Munich.

In total, TAP offers as much as 19 direct routes from Porto to Europe, USA and Brazil.

It is worth mentioning that other airliners are increasing their operations or betting on Porto Airport, namely RyanAir, WizzAir and more recently, Vueling, offering direct flights between Porto and Bilbao, starting 2 July.

"With no limits regarding airport capacity, we want to draw more airliners, establish new destinations, and increase the number of routes and frequencies within the same destinations", as previously stated by Carlos Lacerda, CEO of ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal.
