The 9th edition of Allariz International Garden Festival awarded three Portuguese landscape architects who designed the most voted garden by the public.

The Portuguese are Alumnae of FCUP- Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and took part in the contest to design a unique project, by creating the perfect setting on the banks of the Arnoia River, in the town (concello) of Allariz, province of Ourense, the Autonomous Community of Galicia, Spain.

The contest ran from May to October, and the organisation received 225 projects, from 27 countries, which has consolidated this singular initiative, by attracting thousands of visitors.

This singular initiative in Galicia and Spain aims to find the best design ever regarding places of calm and quiet as gardens can be, soothing mind, body and soul.

The Thematic Corridor of the Arnoia River was the place to revitalise.

This was the only Portuguese project to appear in the competition, among the other projects presented in the competition from countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Peru, Brazil or Japan.

Under the topic "Eroticism in the Garden", the "Forbidden Garden" by Cláudia Vilar, Mónica Mota and Renata Duarte was the most popular among 24.9% of the public.

The garden has an "audacious and modern surrounding", according to the authors, and it was designed to include 3D and 4D interactive features, with the story of Adam and Eve as the perfect backdrop to this scenario.

"Without a doubt, the academic training and education was the common factor that has helped us organise ideas and materialise concepts, together with our personal nature", the authors confide.

For Cláudia, Mónica and Renata, "the positive feedback has been very rewarding".
