The first seminar on the theme "The Time(s) of Contemporaneity", organised by Collective Pláka, runs from 24th to 27th July, at Palácio dos Correios, 7th floor.
This event is aimed at debating the state-of- the-art thinking on contemporary art and art practice, distinct temporalities in our times and how contemporary art is built. The seminar has a cost of 50 euros.

The seminar tutors are historian and art critic Claire Bishop (Artforum regular collaborator and Professor at the Graduate Center of the University of New York) and philosopher and also art critic, Nuno Crespo (Director of the School of Arts of the Catholic University).

"The Time(s) of Contemporaneity" includes the participation of leading figures, both national and international, from numerous art scenes, namely Tania Bruguera, Cuban "artivist" engaged in long-term social projects, who has showcased her work at the MoMA in early 2008; Isabel Lewis, Dominican artist, living in Berlin and whose artwork intertwines literary review, dance, choreography and pop culture.

Flávio Almada, rapper and activist, member of the Ghetto Platform, Black Social Movement; and Joana Gorjão Henriques, journalist of the "Público" newspaper, where she writes about human rights.

Boris Groys is unable to travel on account of health reasons, so his participation will no longer be possible.

The project is organised in two components: access to workshops is limited to registered participants, between 3 pm and 6 pm, and free entry open meetings will take place as of 6.30 pm.

Applications are limited to 20 participants and cost 50 euros per person. Application deadline is 16th July. See here for more information.

"The Time(s) of Contemporaneity" is the first of a series of Collective Pláka 2018 seminars. Other seminars include "Politics of survival: spirit, matter, and future", mentored by Carlos Costa, Gabriela Vaz-Pinheiro and Jorge Palinhos (collective Visões Úteis), and "To school out of school", by Ana Rocha and André Sousa.

The Collectives Pláka are part of the PLÁKA Platform, and summarise Porto City Hall's policy on supporting contemporary art practice.
