Porto PianoFest opening concert, on 30th July, offers contemporary dance, piano and violin performances, by Stars of American Ballet - performing in Portugal for the first time - and pianist Nuno Marques.

Director of PortoPianoFest, Nuno marques is from Porto but currently residing in New York. He will perform at Casa da Música with the special guest and violinist Emanuel Salvador, featuring repertoires by Chopin, Schubert, Arvo Pärt or Phillip Glass. Concerts also include piano solo accompanied by one to eight ballet dancers.

The festival runs till 5th August all over town and marks the centennial of the North-American choreographer Jerome Robbins - founder of the New York City Ballet (NYCB).

Stars of American Ballet travels to Porto to host ballet performances and offer top-notch choreography with principal and soloist-level dancers from major American companies, namely NYCB and American Ballet Theater.

The mission of Stars of American Ballet is "to inspire by the art of ballet and great dancing, delivered to anyone, anywhere who wishes to share this experience".

The festival also organises workshops and lectures, as well, providing the city with concerts and music recitals at Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão, the Rectory of the University of Porto, the Casa da Música and the Conservatory of Music of Porto.

This festival is jointly produced by Porto City Hall and cooperativa Cadenza.
