In Porto, you can breathe better.

The Municipality of Porto was elected for the Chair of Eurocities Environmental Forum, as it happened in 2018, when deputy Mayor of Porto, Filipe Araújo took the position in the network. The elections were held in an online format, owing to the ongoing pandemic, and as announced yesterday by the Eurocities official website.

The "Green Flag" award is granted, again, to three green spaces in Porto, by the NGO Keep Britain Tidy. The City Park, the Jardim do Passeio Alegre and the Porto Botanical Garden, under the tutelage of the Municipality of Porto, now bear, as in 2019, the international mark of quality.

The exhibition "Cadernos A & B: Prelúdio e Fuga", by artist Jorge Feijão, opens at the Gabinete de Desenho of Casa Guerra Junqueiro. The event is entrance free, upon space occupancy under the preventive Covid-19 measures and in strict compliance with the health measures in place issued by the health authorities. The display can be visited until 24 January 2021.

The Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto (MHNC-UP), including its Botanic Garden and Biodiversity Salon - Ciência Viva Center, is the first Portuguese institution to become an official member of the Global Alliance "United for #Biodiversity", promoted by the European Commission.

The Environment Educational team at the Municipality of Porto continues to produce tutorials to help the community engage in healthier attitudes towards the environment. This time round it is all about helping little birds get food, as days are shorter and they do not have enough time to seek nourishment, even because there are fewer insects and seeds.

The Municipality of Porto has released a Guide to help understand the Environment in the city. This 28-page document pinpoints the city's strategy regarding environmental issues and where it wants to stand in a near future.

Returning wild animals into their natural habitat is a common practice in the Municipality of Porto. This past Thursday, on 1st October, a wild heron was released into its habitat, near the Observatory for Bird Watching, in the banks of the Jardim do Calém.

Sea Monsters is the theme of the exhibit jointly organized by the Interdisciplinary Center of Maritime and Environmental Investigation (CIIMAR) and the campaign Ocean Action Hub. The result is a set of sculptures and installations by Ricardo Nicolau de Almeida in the entrance hall of the Rectory building, which will be on display till 31 December.

Discover the most amazing facts about bats that most people are not aware of during the "Evenings with Bats" [Noites com Morcegos] initiative, on 25th September. The journey lasts from 7pm to 9pm, guided by the CEA - Environmental Education Centre, at the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal.
