Apart from bargain sales, a book fair is also a place of cultural significance, where people interact with written, sung or spoken words. Novelty this year at Porto Book Fair is the project "Cabine de Escalas", which offers publishing space to small scale publishers.

Porto hosts the 2nd edition of BEAST - International Film Festival on 26 September and this year the festival is devoted to Ukraine. The four-day event features special sessions and competition sessions, as well as masterclasses and workshops that will be held in different places all over the city of Porto, namely Cinema Passos Manuel, Municipal Library Almeida Garrett, Casa das Artes, and OKNA Espaço Cultural, the headquarters of this year's Festival.

The Synchronicity's Open Call is looking for a European Project aimed at supporting the development of smart solutions/and or services to address urban development challenges. Porto City Hall provides founding worth three million euros to support the best proposals, which should be implemented in 2019. Applications are ongoing till 30th September.

Porto Book Fair 2018 features a Cinema Cycle that is forged on the right to protest, the idea of insurgence in society towards a rule of state. The cinematographic representation on show at the Fair deals with the topic of revolt, rebellion and the valid objection of society and authority.

TAP strategy regarding the city of Porto appears to be shifting, after the airliner had removed routes in 2015. The company is majority State owned and following the previous decision of services reduction from Porto Airport, the new administration has decided to reverse this strategy and has announced new routes, starting next year.

The starting point of the spoken word sessions at Porto Book Fair is the correlation between the written and the sung word. Spoken word is a performance art that is word based. That said, Spoken Word sessions are an excellent contribution to the Book Fair's activities programme. The programmed Spoken Word sessions are scheduled for 9, 15, 21 and 22 September.

The "Concertos na Avenida" (Concerts in the Avenida dos Aliados) are back in town, featuring a programme ranging from rock to a symphonic repertoire, in perfect timing as of 10 pm.

Municipal Programme Cultura em Expansão convened the city, people embraced the project and the consequence is the arts and culture footprint in the city of Porto. The cultural project is expanding and continues to reinvent itself so as to better cope with all types of stages and audiences.

The Cité des Métiers delivers two workshops regarding apprenticeship and employment opportunity in Europe, namely in London, UK. The workshop will take place on 13 September, under the theme "Living, Studying and working in London, UK", and it will provide participants the advantages of working in that capital, both regarding work placements and language learning. There are 20 available positions.

Author and poet from Porto, José Mário Branco, inspires dance performance by Balleteatro at Porto Book Fair. Each weekend, the Fair will feature a 15 minute performance of this dance show, always by the Lago dos Cavalinhos.
