The Porto Solidário Programme, created in 2014, has helped 2.336 families by providing monthly partnership to rent or bank mortgages for twelve months.

The programme was proposed by Rui Moreira during the electoral campaign in 2013, and it will now be extended over the next two years, by proposal of Councillor Fernando Paulo.

In total, this programme represented an investment by the Municipality of Porto of circa 5.9 million euros, essential to guarantee the right of housing to the most vulnerable households.

This programme has been one of the key supportive tool to support the most vulnerable and poorer families that are unable to meet its legally formalised rental or house acquisition.

EXTRA ASSISTANCE TIME IS THE RESULT OF AMENDEMENT REGULATION PROPOSED BY INDEPENDENT COUNCILLOR

This morning, in the Executive Meeting (via videoconference) and by proposal of councillor Fernando Paulo, the amendment to the Regulation will be discussed to alter the Porto Solidário Regulation, to assist the most vulnerable households.

This support features four main measures: extending the deadline for granting aid for two years, reduction of the catch rate by family units to 25%, the possibility of beneficiaries to apply again when that period ends earlier, and support granted from the date of the application.

This change is not the result of the pandemic as it was being prepared for quite some time.
