There are, as of this week, direct flights between Porto and Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and KLM will operate non-stop flights to Amsterdam, starting May 15th.

The airline companies flying the flags of France and The Netherlands, did not operate any flights from Porto and now have scheduled flights for two major international airports in Europe.

Bruno Georgelin, Managing Director of the Air France-KLM Group for the Iberian Peninsula stated that "We have good news from Air France and KLM. We have decided to open Porto-Charles de Gaulle route and Porto - Amsterdam route. We open, in addition to operations we already have with Transavia. We open two big hubs in Porto."

The head of Air France-KLM Group for the Iberian Peninsula also added that the airlines "will be able to open more than 300 destinations worldwide to the people of Porto and we will be able to bring to the city of Porto people from more than 300 cities in the world."

The new route from Porto to Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, the main and most important airport in Paris, offers three weekly direct flights.

The new routes were presented yesterday evening at the Post Office Building in Porto, with the presence of the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira.

For Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, "this means exactly that the big world companies, the flag companies believe, not only the airport but they believe in the destination and very much believe in the business tourism."

The Mayor also stressed that "we are talking about airlines that are very dedicated to the business sector, to the companies that work here (in Porto). It's a great time for Porto. These are direct flights which is what we need most directly for business."

"We are talking about more than 1000 airports that are now being served from Porto", Rui Moreira concluded.

In addition to Air France and KLM, which start operating in March, other flagship companies operate scheduled flights in Porto Airport such as Lufthansa (Germany), British Airways (UK), Iberia (Spain), TAAG (Angola) ), Turkish Airlines (Turkey), Aer Lingus or Swiss Air (Switzerland).
