Angela Merkel visits the University of Porto

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Portugal on 30 and 31 May. This visit follows an invitation from Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa.

The programme of the official visit includes a visit to i3S - Investigation and Health Research Institute in Porto. The German Chancellor will also meet PhD students in the context of the "Meeting with Citizens" initiative.

Prior to this meeting, Angela Merkel will visit the Bosch Research and Development facilities in Braga. The visit ends with a reception in Lisbon by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

"This visit will enhance bilateral economic and political relations as well as the close working relationships regarding vital issues for the future of Europe", reads the official statement.
