The "Porto Architecture Guide 1942-2017" is launched today at 7 pm. The event takes place in the main lobby of Porto City Hall.

This is a A+A Books edition, sponsored by EDP Foundation, with the support of Porto City Hall, the Ordem dos Arquitetos (Architects Order) and the Marques da Silva Foundation.

The book's chapters focus on city areas and also on neighbouring districts, The Guide documents landmarks projects such as the Silo-Auto, the rehabilitation of Rivoli theatre, the Hotel D. Henrique, Soares dos Reis Comprehensive school, the renovation of a housing district in the parish of Campanhã, the Portuguese Headquarters of the União Eléctrica Portuguesa, the S. João Bridge, the renovation of Palácio do Freixo, the faculties of Engineering and Economy, the housing complex of Quinta das Sedas, the Cruise Terminal in Leixões, the refurbishing of Casa das Artes, the Casa da Arquitectura, the Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, the Water Treatment Plant of Lever, the Chapel of São José and the building of the Garagem Ouro.

Each project is contextualised and defined by its architectural framework which enables readers to understand the evolution of the architecture within the metropolitan area of Porto in the last 75 years, up to the present time, with more recent transformations, namely the regeneration of Porto downtown, under the context of Porto 2001 - European Capital of Culture or Metro do Porto.

The Guide also lists "future projects" that will have a significant impact on the lives of citizens and the landscape of the city of Porto, as is the case of the former abattoir (Matadouro).
