Armed Forces display at Aliados and D. João I Square to celebrate Portugal Day

Portugal Day, officially Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas (Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities), is Portugal's National Day celebrated every year on 10 June.

There is a lot to see in Porto until Sunday. All activities are free and they take place at Praça da Liberdade, Avenida dos Aliados and Praça D. João I.  A display of military assets and capabilities by members of the three branches of the Portuguese Armed Forces: army, navy and air force.

One can get to know how many search and rescues operations have been carried out by the army, or try the Barany Chair, a special simulator for testing pilot's capacities.

Also, the navy showcases the always popular helicopter and an F16 airplane. There will also be a paintball tour and the possibility to see the interior of a tank, namely the LEOPARD 2, considered as among the most modern military equipment in the world.

Opportunity to rappel or rock climbing at D. João I Square. A Navy tank will also guarantee visitors a diving baptism.

These are some of the highlights of the programme for celebrating Portugal Day in the city of Porto.

On June 10th, the official ceremony with a military parade at Montevideu and Brazil Avenues will be chaired by the President of the Republic.
