This is "Queima das Fitas", or Ribbon Burning week in Porto, a traditional festivity of the students of Portuguese universities.
Celebrations also extends to Bolhão Temporary Market as every afternoon of this week a Tuna will perform at the market.

A Tuna is a group of university students in traditional university dress who play traditional instruments and sing serenades. This tradition goes back to the 13th century, in Portugal and in Spain, when students needed to earn money or food.
Entrance is free.

Currently, students seek to keep this tradition alive, for fun, to travel and to meet new people from other universities.

Today, Bolhão hosts the "Cantuna", the women's Tuna of the Higher School of Education of Porto, at 4.30pm. On 9 May, the stage belongs to the "Sirigaitas", the women's Tuna of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, at 4pm.

On 10 May, this initiative concludes with the "Legislatuna", the women's Tuna of the faculty of Law of the University of Porto, at 3pm.

The Ribbon Burning started on 4 May and will conclude on 12 May.
