Considered the world's leading award programme for buildings, landscape architecture and urban planning, the International Architecture Award honoured the municipal intervention that, almost two years ago, rehabilitated Bolhão.

'Dedicated to the recognition of excellence in architecture and urbanism from a global point of view', the awards honoured Nuno Valentim's project for the city's fresh market in the 'Restoration/Renovation' category.

The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Center for Architecture Art, Design and Urban Studies have been organising the International Architecture Awards since 2004.

They aim to 'honour the best, significant new buildings, landscape architecture, and planning projects' around the world, offering 'an important global overview of the current aesthetic direction of today's commercial, corporate, institutional and residential work to the real estate, banking, business and corporate community, as well as to the press and general public'.
