Cultura em Expansão brings cinema and street theatre to Porto this September

The "Cultura em Expansão" is back on 4th, 5th and 6th September, with three outdoor shows. This new calendar of activities features 38 performances till the end of the year. Also, there are new rules to comply with. 

All performances and activities are free of charge, as usual, but safety measures will be in place to safeguard both the artists and audiences' safety. The use of face masks and the prior collection of tickets is mandatory, two hours before the performances begin, and all shows will have assigned seating positions. Everyone must comply with the guidelines issued by the room assistants. Hand sanitation is also recommended.

The rescheduling of the programme was a joint task by the project's artistic team and the four partner associations, namely Confederação, Sonoscopia, Teatro do Frio and Visões Úteis, and the several other artist involved.

The majority of performances that had already been scheduled will be presented till the end of the year, but other performances, such as residencies, will be included in the 2021 edition.

There will be three shows presented per week, divided by the four main poles: the parish council of Campanhã, the Musical Group of Miragaia, the Neighbourhood Association of Pasteleira - Previdência / Torres and the Neighbourhood of Bouça, as well as other sites in town that will host other performances.

The opening weekend, on 4th, 5th and 6th September, will be exclusively devoted to outdoor shows.

On 4th September, at 9.30pm, stage director Ricardo Alves features the play "Os Sete Pecados Mortais" ["The Seven Mortal Sins", free translation], in collaboration with Teatro da Palmilha Dentada and Teatro Independente de Paranhos, gathering both professional and amateur actors from local companies, at Quinta do Covelo; On 5th September, the performance takes to the stage at the Resident's Association Rink of Pasteleira - Previdência/Torres.

On 6th September, the "Cultura em Expansão" travels to the other end of town, to Monte do Forte/Azevedo, where it will present three outdoor sessions of "Campanhã é a minha casa". This project challenges residents to share their family memories and experiences that will be the inspiration for three short films by directors Sónia Amen, Cláudia Varejão and Edgar Pera.
