This month, the renowned magazine Condé Nast Traveler published an article suggesting a list of the best activities for visitors to do in Porto. By describing the city as 'one of the oldest and most colourful in Europe', the publication also notes the growing interest among tourists in opting for increasingly longer stays.

According to the article, selecting the best activities can help visitors to 'immerse themselves in sounds, flavours, and scents', allowing them to make the most of their experience exploring the city of Porto.

One of the first recommendations is to wander the streets of Porto to explore 'the blue and white tiles that depict the lives of saints or portray Portuguese history'. To better appreciate this form of art, the magazine suggests visiting São Bento Station, and also stopping by the Church of Santo Ildefonso, the Chapel of Souls, Porto Cathedral, and the Church of Carmo.

During the trip, a visit to the Bolhão Market is 'a must', according to the magazine. Regarding cultural ideas, the Soares dos Reis National Museum, the Serralves Foundation, and Ó! Galleria are recommended.

After a walk in search of art and culture, why not enjoy the natural beauty of Porto? Condé Nast Traveler recommends crossing the Luís I Bridge on foot, where tourists can enjoy 'extraordinary panoramic views' of the River Douro.

Eating and drinking in the city

Porto's cuisine is also one of the highlights. The magazine recommends trying 'francesinha', which it describes as 'a local delicacy'. As for where to taste it, the publication suggests the restaurants Café Santiago, Brasão Cervejaria, Cufra, or O Afonso. The magazine also highlights the restaurants A Gruta and Euskalduna as some of the 'best in town'.

To further immerse oneself in 'Portuguese culture', there’s nothing like having a coffee and enjoying a 'pastel de nata'. The publication suggests a visit to Café A Brasileira - 'one of the most iconic' in the city - Café Guarany, Época Porto, or A Certain Café.

The end of the day’s stroll can be rounded off with a drink at some of Porto’s best bars. To get into the city's spirit, visitors can enjoy a beer at Musa or taste wines at Tia Tia.

Condé Nast Traveler advises readers not to leave without first visiting one of the city's beaches, exploring the Douro Valley, or touring the Port wine cellars to taste the region's elixir.

Recently, readers of the US travel magazine 'Travel + Leisure' voted for the World's Best Awards 2024 and chose the city of Porto as one of the 15 best to visit across Europe. Factors such as heritage, culture, gastronomy, trade, and the hospitality of local population were taken into account.
