Palácio do Freixo will be hosting UNESCO's 5th International Conference of the Global Network of Water Museums (WAMU-NET), of which Águas e Energia do Porto is a member through Parque Patrimonial das Águas, from 9 to 11 October.

Around 30 speakers, both Portuguese and foreign, will address the historical and current challenges of sustainable water heritage management over the three-day event, unveiling what the future holds.

The programme includes interactive sessions, round tables and networking spaces for participants, speakers and members of the UNESCO Water Museums Global Network, to discuss strategies and practical solutions for preserving and enhancing cities' water heritage. There will also be guided tours of Porto's centuries-old water supply and sanitation infrastructures.

It should be noted that, at Porto, the cultural heritage of water is represented by Parque Patrimonial das Águas, an outdoor museum that brings together all of the city's water infrastructures, registered on the Porto Water City digital platform, dedicated to heritage education.

The conference is a UNESCO initiative aimed at creating a water culture, especially in urban environments. The full event programme is available here and registration is already open using this form.
