The auditorium of the Engineering Faculty of Porto will play host to the musical "Siddhartha", based on Herman Hesse's novel by the same name (1922), by Art Vision Collective, and direction of Ileana Citaristi, 2 November at 9.30 pm.

German-born poet, novelist, and painter Herman Hesse has inspired a whole generation in the sixties, namely with his acclaimed novel Siddhartha. In this work, Hesse explores the journey of self-discovery, by exploring an individual's search for authenticity, self-knowledge and spirituality.

This event is sponsored by the Embassy of India in Portugal, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the independence of India. The musical describes the story of young Brahmin, who flees his family house to wander around the world in a quest for self-fulfilment. But an ascetic lifestyle, and the refusal of all things earthily are alone not sufficient to reach the highest dimension of human fullness.

Brahmin experiences all the ups and downs of sensual craving, the eagerness to earn money and the gambling addiction up to the moment when he finally encounters peace on a water side, where an old boater teaches him the meaning of life.

The show relies on the poetry of Odia de Devdas Chhotray, music by Annada Prasanna Pattanaik and Sachidananda Das, direction and choreography of Ileana Citaristi.

Entrance is free but subject to room capacity.
