Four days celebrating International Museum Day

The worldwide community of museums celebrate International Museum Day around 18 May and 2017 edition is themed "Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums". 

The city of Porto has organised more than one hundred events to celebrate International Museum Day, from 18 May until 21 May.

One of the highlights is the European Museum Evening, Sunday, 21 May, that takes place at Casa do Infante, Casa Museu Guerra Junqueiro, Centro Português de Fotografia, Clérigos Church, Serralves Contemporary Art Museum, just to name a few.

The main aim of celebrating International Museum Day is to raise awareness on the roles museums play regarding the development of societies and contributing to mutual understanding and cooperation among peoples.

This day is becoming increasingly popular all around the world, with almost 30,000 museums organising activities in more than 120 countries.

In Porto, during this four-day celebration, the municipality aims at engaging citizens in a number of events and activities, most of which are free.
